Living Your Faith at the Next Level

by Pastor Dennis

Reflections from Matthew 24:1-14

“Then many false prophets will appear and fool many people. Such will be the spread of evil that many people’s love will grow cold. But whoever holds out to the end will be saved. And this Good News about the Kingdom will be preached through all the world for a witness to all mankind; and then the end will come.”  Matthew 24:11-14

I hear talk all the time, perhaps you have as well, that people want to take their life to the next level. In business, they want a better position and increase in pay. In school, to obtain more insights to gain the advantage in job offers which lead to more power and status in life. Maybe moving to a better house or living in a more prestigious part of town. Even in these rough economic times, living our lives to the next level is of the interest to many. What about in our spiritual lives. Has the thought of living our faith at the next level been considered?

Jesus lived in an age, where human power and position seemed to overshadow the needs to people. If you were from a lowly family with no social standing, you were look down upon. If your father held a position within the temple or judicial system of that day, even if you were the biggest scoundrel, you were exempt from all penalties. People were made a public example for speaking the truth, often being put to death and labeled as a trouble maker. Jesus encouraged his disciples to stand firm in proclaiming God’s truth, because that will combat evil and lead to eternal life.

In your daily life, what would living faith at the next level mean for you? Perhaps it would mean developing time to read scripture and ponder God’s word more. Maybe it’s time to go public with your faith and nurture others in their belief. Having you been thinking about going into the mission field? Putting your faith on the line will cause many to question and even reject what you say, but it will lead to a full life in God’s presence and eternal joy forever.

Dear Lord, help me to develop faith that will live on the next level with you. Like those in the past who have fought for our civil freedoms, may I work towards the spiritual freedom that others desire. With your presence, the Evil One has no power over us. Amen.
